Feelings have been the subject of poems, songs, dance, stories, books, movies and yet fully experiencing our feelings can be a mystery to us. Blame and criticism can inhibit our ability to feel our feelings. How we should and shouldn’t be feeling is a frequent refrain in our heads.
Feelings are just what they are and when denied can lead to a sense of anxiety, depression and hollowness. The more we trust our feelings the more they will simply flow in and out of us and the better able we will be to connect to ourselves and others.
Rumi’s poem inspires us to open ourselves to better experience ourselves.
