I started offering the O-Shot at Congtythamtu Women’s Health in March 2018. I am always excited to add something new to our treatment “tool box” because when it comes to female sexual dysfunction, a bit of trial and error is often involved and what works for one patient may not work for another. Therefore, the more options, the better! Plus, from what I had read, women who were treated with the O-Shot seemed to be very satisfied with their results.
I believe the O-Shot is a great option for many of my patients but it’s important to understand what exactly it’s designed to do and how it works. The O-Shot can help women in the following ways: enable them to have stronger orgasms, increase natural lubrication, and decrease urinary incontinence. Studies are also underway using the O-Shot for the treatment of lichen sclerosus and other vaginal skin conditions.
So how does it work? The O-Shot is a simple procedure. First, blood is drawn from the arm, and spun down to isolate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP’s). PRP is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to remove red blood cells. It has a greater concentration of growth factors than whole blood and is thought to stimulate stem cells to grow healthier vaginal tissue. Next, a numbing cream is used to numb the areas of the vagina where the PRP’s will be injected. Finally, when the area is numb, the PRP’s are injected into the anterior vaginal wall and the clitoris.
Patients are reporting that the procedure is painless. The procedure itself takes just a few minutes, although you can expect to be in the office for an hour, so that we can review your medical history, get your blood drawn and spun down, and give time for the numbing cream to work.
Please us for additional information, and to see if the O-Shot could be right for you.
